Spooky Spotlight: Freida McFadden

We're well into the thick of Spooky Season, so it's time for thrillers to shine! Even if you're not a fan of the genre, it's hard to avoid anything scary right about now. There are many famous authors who write thrillers: Stephen King, Agatha Christie, John Grisham, etc.

However, one author that may have been overlooked until recently is Freida McFadden. When she isn't writing mindblowing psychological thrillers, McFadden is a physician specializing in brain injuries. Her most popular work includes The Housemaid series, and her name is becoming synonymous with the psychological thriller subgenre.

Filled with twists and turns, The Locked Door offers us a serial killer plot. Nora grew up thinking her childhood was normal; nothing was normal about having a serial killer for a father. Pursuing a successful career as a surgeon, Nora stays as off-the-grid as possible while following her dreams. Horrifically, one of her female patients gets murdered in the same gory way that her father killed his victims. Someone knows Nora's identity, but they don't know what's in her basement... Published at the beginning of this year after quite the wait, The Housemaid's Secret is the sequel to The Housemaid. The Coworker

McFadden's most recent release, The Coworker, has already received raving reviews. Despite their differences, two women working in the same office form an odd friendship. Dawn is noticeably off personality-wise, but she is always on time and consistent. When Dawn does not show up to work at her usual time one morning, Natalie grows concerned. If things aren't strange enough, Natalie receives an uncanny, anonymous phone call... Readers will realize that Dawn wasn't just an awkward coworker; she was the target. Will Natalie solve her coworker's disappearance, or will she suffer the same fate as Dawn?

Conclusion

When the leaves start to fall and everything is pumpkin flavored, what more could you ask for than good thrillers? Freida McFadden has been writing thrillers for years, and her most recent series, The Housemaid, has been praised all over social media. I personally have read several of her books, and they never cease to amaze me. As a fan of the thriller genre, I am always impressed by her unreliable narrators and twisted writing. At Discover Books, we wish you a cozy fall and happy reading!
